Resolution 2008

21 December 2007

Be true to yourself.  Appreciate your parents for who they are, knowing where they came from.  We always do the best we can with what we’ve got to work with.  Love with your actions more than your words.  Watch funny movies when depressed.  Go for a walk when you feel the heat of anger rising in your cheeks.  If it’s your spouse that has you fuming, make sure you tell him/her when you’ll be back.  Fight fair.  Conflict is an opportunity for growth.

Conflicts lead to solutions, and discovering different solutions is what leads to our evolution.  Teach evolution in school because science is about solving problems…  Solutions!  There is always a place for your religion.  Science and religion are different approaches to the same mystery.  Religions evolve just like creatures, because life is momentum and ideas come from life.  Religion and science can work together, bringing us answers to our woes, or can work in ways that slaughter millions of people.  So be careful.  Be careful not so much about what you believe, but how you believe.

Go to church to sing.  Sing praise for all creation whether evolved or made in seven days.  What we’ve got is amazing.  Do things that promote life.  Think about your health.  Basically, make the same resolution you made last year: quit smoking, don’t eat too many donuts, join a gym, spend more time with the family.

This year, make more specific plans.  Try a smoking cessation class.  Go to a nutrition specialist.  Actually go to the gym after you join, and meet with a trainer once a week to help keep you motivated.  Pack a picnic with the family every Sunday and go to a park.  Make the family picnic time a no cell phone zone.

Don’t just make a resolution with yourself; after all, your relationship with yourself is what is causing all those bad habits.  This year, make the resolution to ask for support from people who may know more than you. Don’t let your fear turn into too much food, booze, cocaine, sex, gambling, or shopping.  You are always worth having the life you’ve always wanted—no matter what happened before.  Reach out to people who are usually not just willing, but downright enthusiastic about telling you what worked for them. Trusting one another is the best deal in town.

            Happy New Year.
